Saturday Classes

Junior Medium

Karts & Parts driver Julius Makos came into the weekend with the points lead. In qualifying Scott Nagel, a new addition to the Awesome Engines team, took the pole by 0.261 seconds with Cory Cacciavillani second and Jessica Brutski third. In the pre-final, Cacciavillani and Nagel battle back and forth with Cory coming out with the win.  In the final, Scotty Nagel wouldn’t be denied his win after taking the lead on lap three and never looking back. Scott would  take the top step of the podium but Julius would still maintain his points lead with his strong top ten finish.

Micro Max

Matteus Makos and Devlin DeFrancesco would pilot their Awesome Engines powered Micro Max to second and third place starting positions in qualifying.  Devlin made a strong run to a fourth place finish in the final. Matteus put his head down and tried his hardest to improve his position to first in both the pre-final and final but wasn’t able to catch the Florida winter tour champion Grant Quinlan and would settle for the second step on the podium. Matteus maintains his second place in the point standings with Devlin following in third.

Rotax Max Senior

Pearce Herder placed his Awesome Engines Arrow Kart on pole by .249 seconds.  Pearce completed his clean sweep of the weekend by leading every lap in the pre-final and final and getting fastest lap of the day with a 30.502 second lap. Pearce jumped to third in the points standings.

Sunday Classes

Novice

Matteus Makos took the pole by .177 seconds while piloting his Awesome Engine powered Gold SL 28/28 kart. Matteus was untouched in the pre-final by leading every lap and taking the win. In the final Matteus had a bad start and dropped back to third, but he didn’t give up. He put his head down and drove himself back to the front by lap 6. Once he got to the front, he pulled a 2.6 second gap on second and took the win uncontested. Matteus also left the weekend with the points lead.

Junior Lite

Cameron Morrison drove his Awesome powered kart to an off pole starting position in qualifying.  Cameron showed great speed through the races but ended off both the pre-final and final in a respectable third place finish.

Junior Heavy

Junior Heavy was the biggest class of the weekend with 28 karts. Reid Arnold qualified his Awesome Engine Gold SL 28/28 fifth with Julius Makos driving his Karts and Parts Gold to a sixth place start.  In the pre-final Reid and Julius both moved up two spots to finish third and fourth place.  In the final Julius had a great start moving from fourth to second in the first lap, but had some handling issues and had a strong 5th place finish.  Reid came through the first corner in third but moved to second after lap 3, then set his eyes on the leader.  Reid got on his bumper and waited until lap 17 of 20 to make the move into turn 1. Reid led the last three laps to take the win and the points lead.

Senior Light

Karts and Parts Awesome Engines drivers Pearce Herder, Darryl Timmers and Kyle Herder came into the weekend one-two-three in the points standings after their clean sweep of the podium in the first round of the BSRKC season at Sutton. In qualifying the Karts & Parts team showed some struggle to adapt to the track with Pearce qualifying 6th and Darryl qualifying 9th. In the pre-final both Pearce and Darryl seemed to pick up the pace by finishing 3rd and 5th while piloting their Awesome Karts.   The final would show some of the best side by side action of the day.

When the green flag dropped Pearce and Darryl went into turn one bumper to bumper and had nothing on their minds except getting to the front.  By the time they exited turn two they moved into 1st and 2nd, but Darryl dropped back to third, after all the passing settled down.  On lap five, Darryl had moved into second and was on Pearce’s bumper trying to break away from third and fourth place drivers Michael Glaze and Tyler Hendricks.  By lap ten Mike Glaze moved to 1st, Darryl was 2nd, Tyler was 3rd and Pearce dropped back to 4th after having some troubles.  Going into the last lap Mike was 1st, Tyler was 2nd and Darryl was 3rd. On turn one Tyler made a move to the inside of Mike and they drove side by side rubbing against each other  all the way to turn three. Darryl came up on them quick and saw an opening on the inside of the track and went for it.  Darryl made it beside Tyler before he turned in and made contact with Darryl’s rear wheel putting his into the air which put both of them wide. Mike ended up passing both of them back to take the win with Darryl finishing 2nd and Tyler 3rd and Pearce coming home 4th. With Darryl finishing second, he took over the points lead with Pearce 2nd.

Masters

In qualifying Glen Butler and Fred Jordan put their Karts and Parts Gold SL 28/28 in the 2nd and 3rd starting positions with Randy Packham putting his Awesome Engine powered Awesome Kart in the 4th spot.  In the pre-final, there was a four kart battle for the lead but when the dust settled it was Jake Collison in the lead with Packham 2nd, Butler 3rd and Jordan 5th. The final saw Jake Collison take the win, but a slight change in the order with Butler coming out with 2nd, Packham 3rd and Jordan 4th. With his second place finish Glen Butler takes the points lead with by a slim 9 points over Fred Jordan and 26 points over Randy Packham.

Highlights from the 2007 Barrie Grand Prix

July 3, 2007

After a long, hard fought weekend at the Barrie Grand Prix, Karts & Parts is proud to acknowledge the strength of its Team and to show just how competitive the Awesome Kart, Gold SL 28/28 and the Karts and Parts Arrow chassis really are.

In Canada Junior Lite Reid Arnold, piloting his Gold SL 28/28 / Awesome Engine, pulled a great, clean pass in the parking lot area of the course to take the lead on the last lap, that lead then turned into the win.

In Canada Junior Heavy, Gary Klutt made a second last lap pass for the lead and was able to hold off Kevin Monteith for the win.

In Canada Senior the Awesome Kart showed great speed with a 1, 2, 3, sweep in the pre-final with Darryl Timmers winning, Keenan Harris second and Pearce Herder third. In the final the Awesome kart once again showed its speed with an Awesome running second, third and fourth at the halfway point, but then disaster struck when a lapped kart spun in front of the leaders taking out the drivers from 2nd through 5th. But all was not lost when Evan Hayden, driving his Gold SL 28/28 /Awesome Engine coming from an 18th place start, drove a strong race to finish 2nd.  Mike  Rogers also was on the move, when he came from last place of a thirty kart class to a fourth place finish. Darryl Timmers recovered from the lapped traffic incident to finish sixth and rounding out the top ten was Chris Packham finishing ninth.

In Senior Rotax, the largest class of the day, Keenan Harris put his Awesome two-cycle chassis in the off-pole position and raced to a third place finish with Pearce Herder on a Karts & Parts Arrow finishing second.

In the Rotax DD2 class Kyle Herder raced to a strong second place finish while piloting his DD2 Arrow Chassis.

Karts & Parts would like to thank everyone for their support and outstanding achievements from the weekend.
